Calvin J.
- Born: Providence, Rhode Island
The second of six children, Calvin's family moved to Columbus, Ohio several years after his father's medical discharge from the U.S. Navy due to multiple sclerosis. Having been a boxer while in the Navy, Calvin's father continued his physical training through judo and Shotokan karate.
Calvin and his older brother, Donald Jr., both followed in their father's footsteps... Donald Jr. trained in several forms of martial arts before concentrating on Shotokan Karate and Calvin directed his training in Boxing.
As a member of the Columbus Ohio Police Athletic League Boxing program, Calvin set his sights on a different challenge: Finish what his father was forced to step away from and become an all Navy Boxing Champion.
Joining the Navy in June of 1985, Calvin achieved this goal by December of that year when he became the All-Navy Middleweight Champion. He competed in numerous Navy Boxing traning camps, winning local and state championships, as well as assisting in the training of numerous boxers for higher competition from 1985 through 1997.
Calvin stepped away from the Navy Boxing program immediately following his father's death in 1998. Calvin moved to Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii in 2000 and assisted Marines in boxing training as well as occasionally working with members of the 808 Fight Factory MMA team in boxing technique.
Calvin joined The Boxing Club in 2005 in hopes of fulfilling a new challenge: Assist as many people as possible in achieving their personal goals through Boxing fitness.
