Gustavo

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Gustavo Pugliese started his boxing career in Pennsylvania when he moved to United States in 1998. He graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fitness Management from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. While a student at Lock Haven, Pugliese joined the boxing club and team, whose head coach has been former manager of the USA Boxing Olympic Team. When competing for Lock Haven, Pugliese fought over fifty NCBA and USA Boxing bouts winning the Eastern Championship Twice (2002 & 2003), placed second at nationals and earned All-American honors as a lightweight.

In 2003, Pugliese was promoted assistant coach of the Lock Haven University boxing team. As the assistant of Dr. Cox, Pugliese was responsible for the team’s nutrition, conditioning and strength- training, and technique instruction. A USA Boxing coach certified, Pugliese is also known for his ability to teach the fundamentals of amateur boxing making them simple and easy to learn. During his first year coaching, Pugliese helped the team pick up two individual national titles.

Boxing is not his only area of expertise. Pugliese has also been the strength and conditioning coach for the Lock Haven University Wrestling Team, a strong NCAA division one program. Working along with Kerry Kolat, a World Class & Olympic Wrestler, Gustavo with his knowledge on the athletic fitness field made a significant impact in the program. Pugliese has accumulated five years of personal training experience, prescribing strength-training and cardiovascular programs for clients and athletes. Gustavo Pugliese is currently living in San Diego CA, working as the director of training at The Boxing Club - Kearny Mesa.
