How to Lose Weight and Keep It Off

Early last week, our very own Jessica Lopez was featured in an article on The Active Times regarding tips for how to keep weight off once you’ve lost it. Since the topics of weight loss and maintenance are very prevalent during this time of the year, we figured we’d share some additional tips and tricks from Jessica on how to lose weight and keep it off even amidst all the temptation of the holiday season.

1) Eat fresh, nutrient-dense foods:
Duh, stay away from processed foods. If you didn’t make it, then you really don’t know what is in it. Educate yourself on nutrition. The more you know, the easier it is to make the right choice.

2) Enjoy the learning process:
Weight loss is awesome and an amazing goal to achieve! If you have a negative mindset towards losing weight, then you might get the job done for a certain event or goal, but you will easily fall back into an old routine soon thereafter. If you learn to enjoy eating healthy and the process, it will be easier to keep the new habits for a lifetime.

3) Once a goal has been obtained, make a new goal:
Life is about growing, learning, and changing. There is always another level to hit or another challenge to meet. Why get complacent? Why stop?

4) Surround yourself with like-minded people:
You are a reflection of the people you surround yourself with. So if you prefer to live a healthy lifestyle, then simply be around health-oriented people as well.

5) Be open to new workouts and challenges:
Your body will adapt to the same routine, so if you keep doing the same exact thing you did to achieve your weight loss goal, then you will plateau at some point. Challenge creates change, so continue to find new opportunities to challenge yourself.

6) Stay positive:
We’ve all heard it countless times – you are what you eat. But you are what you think as well. Fitness is mental. Make your thoughts positive and you’ll have a positive outcome.

We hope these tips to lose weight help you in your daily lives. The most important thing is to never give up on yourself. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what kind of shape you are currently in – you can always get better. There will always be mishaps, obstacles, and interferences, but it is vital to not dwell on the past and to pick right back up. Regroup, refocus, and continue being the best you can be. Believe in yourself and who knows what it could bring.
